Dear supporters and friends,
Two years ago, families like yours in Grand Rapids told Lansing it was time for a change by sending me to be their voice at the state capitol. Since becoming your representative, I’ve always put the families, seniors and students of Grand Rapids first.
I’ve fought for tax relief, because I know that Michigan families are struggling to get by. Important tax credits, such as the Homestead Property Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit, have been reduced, and the $600 per-child deduction was eliminated completely. Seniors now struggle with a new tax on retirement income. That’s why I’ve introduced legislation to restore the child deduction, and co-sponsored measures to restore the other tax credits and get rid of the retirement tax. I know Grand Rapids families need tax relief and I’m working hard to bring it to you.
I also know that you’re concerned about our schools. Because of recent funding cuts, Michigan schools have seen a $3 billion funding cut during the past three years. Rather than cutting back, I know that we should be investing in your kids, and I am fighting to restore school funding.
I’m proud to work hard on your behalf, but my job is not done. That’s why I’m asking for your support to return me to Lansing, so that I can finish what we’ve started.
State Representative, House District 76
